Subject: adding a reservoir above a diversion

I have a weekly time-step model and am wondering when to add a reservoir for diverting water. Clearly a reservoir is needed for flood control. But what about a reservoir that diverts water to a hydropower plant? I think that it depends on how much water can be stored in the reservoir. I.e., if more than one week of diversion volume can be stored, add a reservoir. If less than on week can be stored, then don't add the reservoir.

Any experience on this?

Thanks!
