Hello everyone!! I'm Doyere Joel KONE, PhD student.

I would like to know if WEAP allows the integration of future climate projections (e.g., CMIP6 scenarios) into its hydrological modeling. If yes, could you share guidance or tutorials to help me implement this?

Specifically, I aim to:

- Import CMIP6 data (precipitation, temperature) into WEAP.

- Set up climate scenarios to assess their impacts on water resources.

If you have experience with this, I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights!

Thank you in advance for your support🌍💧!
Mr. Doug Chalmers

Hello Doyere,

Yes, WEAP contains CMIP6 climate data already built in, which you can use by creating catchments in catchment delineation mode. You can access this in WEAP by going to Schematic --> Catchment Delineation Mode. Then, on the menu on the right-side that appears, click "Select" under Load Climate Data. You then can change the Data Source to CMIP6. Any catchments you create will use the CMIP6 climate and land cover data. You can also load a custom NetCDF with CMIP6 data and use it by selecting the NetCDf from the Load Climate Data screen. Note that you will have to calibrate these catchments to historical gauge data using historical climate data.

You can also create scenarios looking at different individual sets of the CMIP6 climate projections. To do this, you can select the climate data in the catchment delineation mode, click on "Data" on the left to load the data into the ClimateData folder in your WEAP Area folder. Then, create a scenario for each climate projection and modify the ReadFromFile expressions for the climate to read the data for the specific climate data. A more detailed explanation can be found here: https://www.weap21.org/index.asp?action=9&read=4546&fID=30. We are working to create an easier workflow in WEAP for creating these climate scenarios, but this is the best method for now.

Hope this helps!
-Doug
